Burnthwaite Farm is a traditional farmhouse bed & breakfast as well as a fully working farm with both cattle and traditional Lakeland Herdwick sheep.
Situated at the head of the Wasdale Valley, the farm covers part of the flat valley floor and a large area of upland fells.
With direct access from the door to Scafell Pike (England's highest mountain), Scafell, Great Gable & Kirkfell (amongst many others) as well as Wastwater (England's deepest lake), Burnthwaite is the perfect base to stay for walkers, climbers, wild swimmers and those that just want to get away from it all.
We're also very close to the coast with some beautiful beaches, so if you fancy getting out of the hills to breathe some sea air, our closest beaches are just approx. 12 miles away in Drigg, Seascale & St Bees.
Burnthwaite has been a working farm since the 1600's and taking guests since the 1700's as people travelled east on the pack horse route over Styhead Pass.
You'll be given a warm welcome by Georgina & Andrew at Burnthwaite, a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day ahead and packed lunches are available to order.
Just 10 minutes walk down the lane, you'll find The Wasdale Head Inn and their pub - Ritson's Bar - where you'll be fed and watered and you'll be able to swap stories with others about your days on the fells.
Burnthwaite has 7 bedrooms to let (2 x en-suite & 5 x non en-suite with shared bathrooms), sleeping a maximum of 13 people. Please see the B&B tab at the top of the page for more info.
As well as the B&B, we also have a self contained holiday cottage which sleeps up to 4 people, please see the relevant tab.
